Confetti Collector

19/09/11
This was a grab shot at a recent wedding. Children are naturally drawn to playing with confetti so after the bride and groom had left the church I kept an eye out for an opportunity to capture this behaviour.I pre-set the camera to a wide angle with centre point focus and a moderate aperture. I then dropped down, lowered the camera to the pavement and fired off a couple of shots with the camera pointed at the bridesmaid but without looking through the viewfinder. After the event I cropped the shot to move the bridesmaid to a more pleasing position in the image.
The chosen aperture with the wide angle view has allowed the nearest confetti to blur, leading the eye into the frame. These settings have also kept the lady in the wheelchair blurred enough to not take the focus away from the bridesmaid but recognisable enough to show the link between the generations of the family.
It's just a snap of a moment but one that helps tell the story of the day and which the bride and groom will have missed.
